Why Is It Called Varun Mudra?
Varun Mudra, also known as Varuna Mudra, is named after Lord Varuna, the Hindu God of Water and Rain. This powerful yogic hand gesture represents the water element (Jal Tatva) in the body. Practicing Varun Mudra helps balance the water content in the body and supports the purification of bodily fluids. In yoga and Ayurveda, this mudra is believed to improve hydration, enhance skin glow, and maintain fluid balance naturally.
How to Perform Varun Mudra
- Sit comfortably on the floor, yoga mat, or chair.
- Choose a meditative posture such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose) or Sukhasana (Easy Pose).
- Keep your spine straight and relax your shoulders.
- Take a few deep breaths and normalise your breathing pattern.
- Rest your hands on your knees with palms facing upward.
- Gently touch the tip of your little finger to the tip of your thumb by keeping the remaining three fingers extended and relaxed.
- Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
- Practice deep, slow breathing while concentrating on the energy flow in your hands.
