Why is it called Varada Mudra?
The word Varada means granting blessings, boons, or good wishes. Varada Mudra symbolizes generosity, compassion, and the act of giving blessings to people and the outer world or nature. It is commonly seen in Hindu and Buddhist iconography, representing kindness and divine grace.
How to Perform Varada Mudra (Step-by-Step Guide)
- Sit comfortably on the floor, yoga mat, or a chair according to your convenience.
- Choose any meditation posture (Dhyana-mukha Asana) such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose) or Sukhasana (Easy Pose).
- Close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths. Allow your breathing pattern to become natural and steady.
- Place both hands gently on your knees or thighs in a relaxed position.
- Extend your left hand over the left knee with the palm facing forward and fingers pointing downward in a relaxed manner.
- Keep the right hand on the right knee in Gyana Mudra, or rest it near your lap in Dhyana Mudra.
- Keep your eyes closed and focus on your breath and the subtle sensations in your hands.
