How to do Vajrasana (Diamond Pose / Thunderbolt Pose)

Vajrasana, also known as the Diamond Pose, is one of the simplest yet most powerful seated yoga postures for improving digestion, calming the mind, and strengthening the lower body. This beginner-friendly pose can be practiced by people of almost all age groups and is especially beneficial after meals. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to do Vajrasana, its benefits, indications, and precautions.

Step-by-Step Practice Guide to Perform Vajrasana

  1. Sit on the floor with your legs stretched forward in Dandasana.

  2. Inhale gently and fold your right leg, bringing the right foot under your right buttock.

  3. Repeat the same with your left leg, placing the left foot under the left buttock.

  4. Position both knees together and sit back on your heels with the soles touching your buttocks.

  5. Place both hands on your knees, keep your spine straight, and either close your eyes or fix your gaze on a single point.

  6. Take slow, deep breaths while holding the posture for a few minutes.

  7. To release, exhale and gently bring both legs forward to return to Dandasana.

  8. Relax and repeat 3 to 4 times if comfortable.
