Why Is It Called Ushas Mudra?
Ushas Mudra derives its name from Goddess Ushas, who represents the rising sun and renewal. Practicing this mudra is believed to invite positive beginnings, increased motivation, and balanced energy flow in the body.
How to Perform Ushas Mudra (Step-by-Step Guide)
- Sit comfortably on the floor, yoga mat, or chair.
- Assume a meditation posture such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose) or Sukhasana (Easy Pose).
- Close your eyes and regulate your breathing. Inhale and exhale deeply until your breath becomes slow and steady.
- Place both hands in front of the lower abdomen (near the navel area), with palms facing upward.
- Interlock your fingers gently.
For Men: Place the right thumb over the left thumb. Gently press the left thumb against the left index finger while keeping the fingers interlocked.
For Women: Place the left thumb over the right thumb. Position the right thumb between the left thumb and left index finger, while keeping the fingers interlocked comfortably.
- Allow the crossed fingers to rest comfortably within the opposite hand’s fingers, forming a gentle oval shape.
- Keep your eyes closed and focus on your hands.
- Breathe deeply and calmly throughout the practice.
