Yoga Postures >> Shunya Mudra (Gesture of Emptiness) Yoga Posture
|
Why is it called Shunya Mudra?
The word Shunya means emptiness, void, or space. In yogic philosophy, this mudra is believed to help balance the ether (Akasha) element in the body. Shunya Mudra is commonly practiced to support conditions related to ear health and ether element imbalance. Because it helps reduce the excess of the Akasha element, it is also known as Akasha Shamaka Mudra and sometimes referred to as the Heaven Mudra.
How to Perform Shunya Mudra (Step-by-Step Guide)
- Sit comfortably on the floor, yoga mat, or a chair according to your convenience.
- Sit in a meditation posture (Dhyanatmakasana) such as Padmasana or Sukhasana.
- Relax your body and take a few slow, deep breaths to stabilize your breathing.
- Place your hands comfortably on your knees or thighs with palms facing upward.
- Bend the middle finger so that its tip touches the base of the thumb.
- Gently press the middle finger with the thumb, while keeping the other fingers extended.
- Close your eyes and focus your awareness on the Anahata Chakra (Heart Chakra).
- Continue breathing deeply, slowly, and calmly during the practice.
