Why is it called Shakti Mudra?
Shakti Mudra is named after Shakti, one of the names of Goddess Durga, the Hindu deity who symbolizes courage, strength, power, and divine feminine energy. The word Shakti means energy or inner power, making this mudra a symbolic gesture for awakening inner strength, emotional balance, and spiritual energy.
How to Perform Shakti Mudra
- Sit comfortably on the floor, a yoga mat, or a chair according to your convenience.
- Assume any comfortable meditation posture, such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose), Sukhasana (Easy Pose), or any other stable seated position.
- Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths. Allow your breathing to become calm, natural, and rhythmic.
- Bring both hands in front of the navel with the palms facing each other.
- Fold each thumb inward toward the palm and gently wrap the remaining fingers around it.
- Keep your ring and little fingers straight and pointing outward.
- Press the tips of the corresponding fingers together (little finger to little finger, ring finger to ring finger). The knuckles of your folded middle and index fingers should also touch gently.
- Rest your hands comfortably and focus your attention on the navel (umbilical) region.
- Observe your natural breath and become aware of the subtle sensations and energy within the body.
- Chant "Om" gently while exhaling.
- Continue breathing slowly, deeply, and peacefully throughout the practice.
