Why is it called Rudra Mudra?
Rudra Mudra, also known as the Gesture of Strength or Gesture of Lord Rudra, is named after Lord Rudra (Lord Shiva), the Hindu deity who symbolizes strength, courage, power, and transformation. This yoga hand gesture is traditionally practiced to enhance inner strength, boost confidence, and cultivate physical and mental resilience.
How to Perform Rudra Mudra
- Sit comfortably on the floor, a yoga mat, or a chair according to your convenience.
- Choose a comfortable meditation posture such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose) or Sukhasana (Easy Pose).
- Relax your body and take a few slow, deep breaths to calm your mind. Allow your breathing to become natural, steady, and rhythmic.
- Rest your hands comfortably on your knees or thighs with your palms facing upward.
- Gently touch the tips of your thumb, index finger, and ring finger together. Keep the middle finger and little finger comfortably extended.
- Close your eyes and focus your attention on the Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus Chakra). Observe your breath and experience the flow of energy within your body.
- Continue breathing deeply and calmly throughout the practice.
