Yoga Postures >> Prana Mudra (Gesture of Life Force) Yoga Posture
|
Why is it called Prana Mudra?
Prana Mudra is performed to enhance Prana Shakti, the vital life force or energy that sustains the body and mind. This powerful hand gesture helps improve vitality, strengthen the body's natural energy, and promote overall physical and mental well-being. Hence, it is popularly known as the Gesture of Life Force.
How to Perform Prana Mudra
- Sit comfortably on the floor, a yoga mat, or a chair according to your convenience.
- Begin by sitting in a comfortable meditation posture such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose), Sukhasana (Easy Pose), or any meditative pose.
- Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths to relax your body and calm your mind.
- Rest both forearms comfortably on your thighs or knees with the palms facing upward.
- Gently bend the ring finger and little finger toward the centre of the palm, then lightly touch their tips with the tip of the thumb.
- Keep the index finger and middle finger extended without strain.
- Focus your attention on the Sahasrara Chakra (Crown Chakra) and experience the natural flow of energy and vibrations within the body.
- Continue breathing slowly and deeply while maintaining the mudra.

Precautions
Practise Prana Mudra in a quiet, clean, and comfortable place while wearing loose-fitting clothing to improve concentration.
Since this mudra may enhance blood circulation, people with high blood pressure (hypertension) should practise it for a shorter duration and preferably under the guidance of a qualified yoga instructor.
Beginners should start with shorter practice sessions and gradually increase the duration as they become comfortable.
