Yoga Postures >> Matangi Mudra (Gesture of Inner Harmony) Yoga Posture

Why is it called Matangi Mudra?

Matangi Mudra is named after Goddess Matangi, one of the Mahavidyas in Hindu tradition, who symbolizes inner wisdom, humility, harmony, and self-expression. According to traditional beliefs, Goddess Matangi is associated with purity of thought, control over the ego, and spiritual knowledge. Practising this mudra is believed to promote emotional balance, inner peace, and mental clarity, which is why it is known as the Gesture of Goddess Matangi.

How to Perform Matangi Mudra

  1. Sit comfortably on the floor, a yoga mat, or a chair as per your comfort.

  2. Sit in any comfortable meditation posture, such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose) or Sukhasana (Easy Pose).

  3. Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths to relax your body and mind.

  4. Close your eyes and gently move the eyeball towards the third eye (Ajna Chakra), the point between the eyebrows.

  5. Bring both hands together in front of the navel in Anjali Mudra (Prayer Gesture).

  6. Interlock all the fingers except the middle finger.

  7. Extend both middle fingers and keep them straight, touching each other along their entire length, with the fingertips together.

  8. Focus your attention on the Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus Chakra) and observe the natural flow of breath and energy.

  9. Continue breathing slowly, deeply, and calmly throughout the practice.
