The practice is called Mahabheda Mudra because it is performed along with Maha Bandha, and the word "Bheda" means piercing, breaking through, or continuously shifting concentration. This mudra helps direct pranic energy through the central energy channel by breaking energetic blockages and enhancing awareness.
Step-by-Step Guide to Perform Mahabheda Mudra
Sit comfortably on the floor in a meditative posture (Dhyanatmak Asana) such as Padmasana or Sukhasana.
Relax your body and mind. Become fully aware of your breathing.
Normalize the breath with slow, deep inhalation and exhalation.
Bend the left leg inward, applying gentle pressure on the perineum, while keeping the right leg straight in front.
Slowly bend forward and try to touch the right foot, bringing the face close to or touching the knee, as comfortable.
Now perform Maha Bandha by applying Jalandhara Bandha (throat lock) first, followed by Uddiyana Bandha (abdominal lock), and finally Mula Bandha (root lock).
Fix your gaze in Nasikagra Mudra (gazing at the tip of the nose).
Concentrate sequentially on the throat chakra (Vishuddha), solar plexus chakra (Manipura), and root chakra (Muladhara) for a few seconds each.
Release the bandhas gently and return to normal breathing.
