Why is it called Khechari Mudra?
Khechari Mudra is a powerful yogic practice designed to elevate consciousness and connect the practitioner with the universal energy. The term Khechari comes from Sanskrit, where "Kha" represents the akasha (space) element, and "Chari" means to move or fly. Practicing this mudra helps the mind and consciousness soar, expanding awareness across the entire Brahmand (universe).
How to Perform Khechari Mudra
- Sit comfortably on the floor or a chair, in a meditation posture such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose) or Sukhasana (Easy Pose).
- Relax your body, normalize your breathing, and take slow, deep breaths.
- Gently curl the tip of your tongue back towards the soft palate.
- In advanced stages, the tongue can touch the Uvula and eventually reach the base of the nasopharynx with consistent practice.
- Maintain calm, deep breathing throughout the practice, gradually progressing to higher stages over time.
