Yoga Postures >> Kaleshvara Mudra (Gesture of the Lord of Time) Yoga Posture

Why is it called Kaleshvara Mudra?

Kaleshvara Mudra is named after Kaleshvara (Lord Shiva), who is revered as the Lord of Time in Hindu philosophy. This powerful yoga hand gesture is believed to calm the mind while simultaneously energizing the body, helping practitioners achieve mental clarity, inner peace, and focused awareness.

How to Perform Kaleshvara Mudra

  1. Sit comfortably on the floor, a yoga mat, or a chair, according to your convenience.

  2. Assume any comfortable meditation posture such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose), Sukhasana (Easy Pose), Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose), or any other meditative posture.

  3. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Inhale and exhale slowly until your breathing becomes calm, deep, and rhythmic.

  4. Raise both hands to the level of your heart, keeping the elbows comfortably bent.

  5. Bring the palms together and form a heart shape by joining the tips of the thumbs and fingers. The finger joints (knuckles) of both hands should gently touch each other.

  6. Extend both middle fingers upward so that only their fingertips touch.

  7. Keep your eyes closed and focus your attention on the mudra. Observe the natural flow of energy and vibrations within your body.

  8. Continue breathing slowly, deeply, and calmly throughout the practice.
