Why is it called Ganesha Mudra?
Ganesha Mudra is named after Lord Ganesha, who symbolizes wisdom, strength, firmness, and determination. The name also reflects Ganesha's role as Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles and challenges.
How to Perform Ganesha Mudra
- Begin by finding a comfortable seated position on the floor, a yoga mat, or a chair.
- Sit in a comfortable meditation posture with a straight spine, such as Easy Pose (Sukhasana), Lotus Pose (Padmasana), or Thunderbolt Pose (Vajrasana).
- Begin with a few deep, slow breaths. Gradually bring both hands together in Anjali Mudra.
- Bring both hands toward the heart or chest level, keeping the elbows bent.
- Place the left palm facing outward and the right palm facing inward. Interlock or firmly hold the fingers of both hands together.
- Close your eyes and gently focus on the Anahata Chakra (heart chakra). Observe your natural breathing and become aware of the flow of energy.
- Continue to breathe deeply, slowly, and calmly throughout the practice.
- Brahma Muhurta, the period before sunrise, is traditionally considered a suitable time for practicing Ganesha Mudra.
