Yoga Postures >> Chinmaya Mudra (Gesture of Awareness) Yoga Posture
|
Why is it called Chinmaya Mudra?
Chinmaya Mudra is derived from the Sanskrit words "Chit", meaning consciousness or awareness, and "Maya", meaning composed of or related to. This hand gesture is traditionally associated with directing awareness inward toward the mind and inner self.
How to Perform Chinmaya Mudra
- Sit comfortably on the floor, on a yoga mat, or on a chair according to your convenience.
- Begin in a comfortable meditation posture, such as Padmasana, Sukhasana, or Vajrasana.
- Take a few slow, deep breaths and allow your breathing to become steady and relaxed.
- Place both hands on your knees or thighs in a comfortable position, with the palms facing upward.
- Bend the index fingers and gently touch their tips to the tips of the thumbs. Keep the remaining three fingers naturally curled toward the palms.
- Close your eyes and gently focus your attention on the mudra. Observe your natural breathing and remain aware of the sensations in your hands.
- Continue to breathe slowly, deeply, and calmly throughout the practice.
