Yoga Postures >> Bhumisparsha Mudra (Earth-Touching Gesture) Yoga Posture

Why is it called Bhumisparsha Mudra?

Bhumisparsha Mudra literally means "Touching The Earth". The practice is traditionally associated with grounding, stability, and developing firmness like the earth.

How to Perform Bhumisparsha Mudra

  1. Sit comfortably on the floor or on a yoga mat. You may also sit in a comfortable position according to your convenience.

  2. Sit in a meditation posture, such as Padmasana (Lotus Pose) or Sukhasana (Easy Pose), while keeping your spine comfortably upright.

  3. Close your eyes and bring your awareness to your breathing. Breathe slowly, deeply, and naturally.

  4. Keep the left hand near the space between the thighs, with the palm facing upward and the hand relaxed.

  5. Place the right hand on the right knee, allowing the fingertips to touch the floor.

  6. Traditionally, the right hand is associated with releasing negativity, while the left hand represents receiving wisdom and energy from nature.

  7. Focus on the Manipura Chakra or gently observe your breathing while keeping your eyes closed.

  8. Breathe deeply and calmly throughout the practice, while remaining aware of the body's natural sensations and energy flow.
