Why is it called Back Mudra?

Back Mudra is traditionally practiced to support the back and spine. It is associated with relieving back discomfort and supporting the overall health and flexibility of the spine.

How to Perform Back Mudra

  1. Sit comfortably on the floor, yoga mat, or a chair, depending on your convenience.

  2. Begin in a comfortable meditation pose, such as Padmasana, Sukhasana, or Vajrasana.

  3. If practicing on a chair, sit upright with your feet comfortably placed on the floor.

  4. Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths to relax your body and normalize your breathing.

  5. Place both hands comfortably near your knees or thighs with the palms facing upward.

  6. For the right hand: Bend the middle and little fingers toward the palm and gently touch their tips with the thumb.

  7. For the left hand: Bend the index finger and gently touch its tip to the base or middle portion of the thumb.

  8. Keep the remaining fingers relaxed and comfortable.

  9. Close your eyes and focus on your hands. Observe your breathing and remain aware of the natural sensations in your body.

  10. Continue breathing slowly, deeply, and calmly throughout the practice.
