How to Do Ardha Kapotasana (Half Pigeon Pose)
Ardha Kapotasana (Half Pigeon Pose) is a simple yet effective posture that can be added to your regular yoga routine. Its gentle, controlled movements encourage flexibility and body awareness, making it a useful pose to explore as part of your practice. Understanding the correct technique and precautions can help you practise this asana more comfortably and confidently.
Steps to Perform Ardha Kapotasana
- Begin by sitting in Dandasana (Staff Pose) with both legs extended in front of you and your spine straight.
- Inhale gently, bend your right knee, and bring your right foot back towards your pelvis, placing the sole of the foot near your inner left thigh.
- Slowly extend your left leg directly behind you, keeping it straight from the knee down with the top of your foot resting on the mat.
- Exhale and adjust your posture. Place both hands on the floor on either side of your hips for balance and support.
- Keep your head, neck, and spine aligned straight. Keep your gaze focused on a single point in front of you to build concentration and balance.
- Hold the position while taking a few deep breaths. Gently exhale, release the posture, and bring both legs back to the front.
- Dandasana for a moment, then repeat the posture on the opposite side. Practice 3-4 rounds.
