Yoga Postures >> Akash Mudra (Aakash Mudra) (Gesture of Space) Yoga Posture

Why is it called Akash Mudra?

Akash Mudra is performed to help balance the Akasha (space or ether) element in the body according to yogic and Ayurvedic principles. This mudra is also believed to support the Vishuddha Chakra (Throat Chakra), which is associated with communication, expression, and purification.

Practicing Akash Mudra regularly may help harmonize the space element within the body and promote overall physical and mental balance.

How to Perform Akash Mudra (Step-by-Step Guide)

  1. First, sit comfortably on the floor, yoga mat, or a chair according to your convenience.

  2. Sit in any comfortable meditation posture (Dhyana Asana) such as Padmasana, Sukhasana, or Vajrasana.

  3. Keep your spine straight and relax your shoulders.

  4. Take a few deep breaths and allow your breathing to become slow, natural, and steady.

  5. Place both hands on your thighs or knees with palms facing upward.

  6. Gently touch the tip of the middle finger to the tip of the thumb.

  7. Keep the index, ring, and little fingers extended and relaxed.

  8. Close your eyes and focus your attention on the hand gesture, observing the natural flow of energy and sensations.

  9. Continue breathing deeply and calmly throughout the practice.
