How to Use Sunflower Seeds in the Kitchen
Sunflower seeds offer numerous health benefits and serve as a nutritious alternative to traditional nuts.
Their naturally nutty and slightly sweet flavour makes them a popular ingredient in various recipes.

Sunflower Seeds-Fig Roll:
Ingredients: |
Sunflower seeds |
½ cup |
Finely Chopped Fig |
½ cup |
Dates |
¼ cup |
Jaggery |
¼ cup |
Sesame seeds |
2 t.spoon |
Peanuts |
¼ cup |
Ghee |
2 t.spoon |
Recipe: |
Heat 1 teaspoon of ghee in a pan over medium flame. Add the sunflower seeds and roast lightly. Transfer to a mixing bowl. |
In the same pan, roast sesame seeds and peanut powder separately. Add them to the bowl with the roasted sunflower seeds. |
Now, add jaggery, chopped figs, and dates to the same pan. Cook until the dates and figs soften and blend well with the melted jaggery. |
Pour this warm mixture into the bowl with the roasted seeds and nuts. Mix everything thoroughly. |
Let the mixture cool for 8-10 minutes. |
Grease your hands with ghee, shape the mixture into a roll, and cut it into 2-inch pieces. |
Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top and press gently to set. |
This wholesome and nutritious sweet is perfect for winter and also makes a great addition to children's tiffin boxes. |
Sunflower Seeds-Asparagus Salad:
Ingredients: |
Sunflower seeds |
½ cup |
Asparagus |
1 cup |
Chopped coriander stems and leaves |
½ cup |
Salt |
as per taste |
Sesame oil |
2 t.spoon |
Pomegranate seeds |
½ cup |
Black pepper powder |
½ t.spoon |
Recipe: |
Dry roast the sunflower seeds in a pan for 1-2 minutes. Set aside. |
In the same pan, heat sesame oil for about 1 minute. Add chopped asparagus, then turn off the flame. |
Immediately add the chopped coriander stems and leaves while the pan is still warm. |
Add the roasted sunflower seeds, pomegranate seeds, salt, and black pepper powder. Mix well. |
Let the salad cool to room temperature, then drizzle with lemon juice before serving. |

Papaya Sunflower Refresher:
Ingredients: |
Finely chopped papaya |
1 cup |
Sunflower seeds |
¼ cup |
Water |
½ glass |
Rose petals (optional) |
2-3 t.spoon |
Rock sugar/jaggery |
1 t.spoon |
Salt |
1 pinch |
Pomegranate seeds |
2-3 t.spoon |
Recipe: |
In a mixer jar or using a mortar and pestle, coarsely grind the sunflower seeds (just 1-2 pulses). |
In the same mixer jar, add half a cup of chopped papaya, a pinch of salt, rock sugar or jaggery, pomegranate seeds, and rose petals. |
Add water and blend well until smooth. Strain the juice. |
Mix in the remaining half cup of papaya and the coarse sunflower seed powder. |
Stir well and serve chilled or at room temperature. |
