How to Use Star Fruit in the Kitchen

  • Star fruit is a tangy and juicy tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia, particularly India.

  • It has a distinct acidic flavour that enhances appetite and aids digestion.

  • Additionally, it adds a delicious sourness to dips, curries, and savoury dishes.

  • Star fruit is also beneficial for individuals managing cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity as part of a healthy diet.



  • Recipes:

    Starfruit and Chia Seeds Refreshing Drink:

    Ingredients:
    Star fruit (raw) 1
    Rock sugar 3 t.spoon
    Salt 1 t.spoon
    Black pepper 1 t.spoon
    Chia seeds 2 t.spoon
    Black salt ½ t.spoon
    Mint leaves 6-7
    Water (cold) 1 glass
    Recipe:
  • Soak chia seeds in water for 3-4 hours or overnight.
  • Slice a raw star fruit, sprinkle with salt, and let it rest for 2-3 hours.
  • Rinse the slices with water and blend them with 3-4 mint leaves into a coarse paste.
  • Pour the paste into a serving glass and add water, black salt, soaked chia seeds, sugar, and extra mint leaves.
  • Mix well and serve chilled.
  • This refreshing summer drink prevents dehydration, and keeps children hydrated while being deliciously refreshing!


  • Star Fruit Candy:

    Ingredients:
    Star fruit raw 2
    Rock Sugar 1½ cup
    Rocksalt ¼ t.spoon
    Cinnamon powder ½ t.spoon
    Water 2 cups
    Recipe:
  • Take washed star fruit and slice it thinly.
  • In a frying pan over medium heat, combine sugar and water, bringing it to a boil for 1-2 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180-200° C for 5 minutes.
  • Add the sliced star fruit and cinnamon powder to the pan, then let it simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  • Strain the slices and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Bake until the sugar syrup is fully absorbed and the slices turn crisp, about 10-15 minutes, checking occasionally.
  • This tangy candy is great for children and is a refreshing summer treat, perfect for chewing between meals to boost appetite.


  • Star Fruit and Pomegranate Dip:

    Ingredients:
    Star fruit chopped 1 cup
    Salt ¼ t.spoon
    Pomegranate seeds 1 cup
    Chili powder Pinch
    Jaggery (optional) 1 t.spoon
    Recipe:
  • In a mixer jar, blend ½ cup of chopped star fruit and ½ cup of pomegranate seeds into a smooth paste.
  • Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add the remaining star fruit and pomegranate seeds along with salt, chilli powder, and jaggery.
  • Mix well and serve at room temperature.
  • Enjoy it as a jam or dip with chapati or brown bread.
  • This nutritious, multi-grain recipe is beneficial for children, adults, and the elderly. It makes a healthy choice for both breakfast and dinner.
