How to Use Flax Seeds in the Kitchen
Flax seeds are frequently mentioned in Ayurveda for their nutritional benefits and therapeutic properties.
They are known to support various health conditions such as lowering cholesterol levels, aids digestion, and boosts energy.
Flax seeds are versatile and can be incorporated into both sweet and savoury dishes, adding flavour and a pleasantly smooth texture.
They can be used whole, especially when roasted, making them a great addition to many recipes.

Green chilli paste |

Ginger paste |

For baking/ roasting |
Recipe: |
In a frying pan, dry roast the flax seeds until aromatic. Allow them to cool, then grind into a coarse powder using a mixer or grinder. |
In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, salt, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Mix well using your fingers. |
Add black pepper, green chilli paste, and ginger paste. Gradually add water and knead into a firm dough (avoid making it too soft). |
Divide the dough into lemon-sized balls. Roll each ball using a rolling pin, then cut into diamond or square shapes. |
Lightly brush with oil and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even baking. |
Alternatively, you can roast the rolled dough on a griddle without cutting. Once roasted, slice into pieces or enjoy whole. |
Serve with your choice of chutney or dip. |

Recipe: |
Soak the basil seeds and almonds overnight. |
Lightly roast the cashews and pistachios in a frying pan, then crush them into a coarse powder using a mortar and pestle. |
In a blender, combine coconut water (or water), soaked basil seeds, almonds, roasted flax seeds, and chopped figs. Blend until smooth. |
Strain the mixture if desired for a smoother texture. |
Stir in the cardamom powder and the crushed cashew-pistachio mixture. |
Serve chilled or at room temperature, suitable for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. |

¼ cup |
Recipe: |
In a bowl, mix ½ cup of water with 1 teaspoon of salt. Soak the flax seeds, sesame seeds, and fennel seeds in this salted water for 3-4 hours. |
After soaking, drain the excess water and spread the seeds on a large plate. Allow them to air dry for 5-6 hours. |
Once dried, transfer the seed mixture to a heavy-bottomed pan and dry roast over medium heat until they become completely dry and crisp. |
Finally, add the unshelled coriander splits to the roasted mixture and mix well. |
This crunchy seed mix makes an excellent natural mouth freshener. It not only refreshes the breath after meals but also supports heart health by helping to reduce bad cholesterol. |
