Home Remedies of Ajwain (Carom Seeds)

  • To stop premature greying of hair, add curry leaves, dry grapes, sugar and Ajwain seeds in a cup of water and cook. Drink this mixture every day.

  • To treat bronchial asthma, tie Ajwain (Carom) seeds in the cotton cloth heat them in a frying pan and apply to the chest and neck when it is warm.

  • To cool body temperature, take 3 grams of Ajwain (Carom) seeds with Garlic (Lahasun) and boil them in 40 grams of sesame oil until it turns red. Strain the oil and use it as ear drops.

  • For an earache, take 1/2 teaspoon of Ajwain seeds and heat it in 30 ml of milk till the aroma of the seeds spread in the milk. Then filter it and use it as ear drops.

  • Consume infusions of Ajwain seeds with common salt, to get relief from the congested throat, hoarseness of the voice due to cold.

  • To cure a cold, take a tablespoonful of Ajwain seeds crush them and tie them in a cloth and inhale it.

  • Ajwain seeds are useful in menstrual pain, roast them in castor oil, grind it, take it with rock salt and warm water. It decreases the pain immediately.

  • For pharyngitis in influenza, take Ajwain seeds, Clove (Laung) and a pinch of common salt and chew them.

  • To get rid of phlegm, consume Ajwain seed powder along with buttermilk.

  • Take 1 to 3 drops of the volatile oil of Ajwain (Carom) seeds internally, to cure diarrhea, indigestion and cholera.

  • For flatulence, take Ajwain seeds and dried Ginger (Adarak) in equal quantity and soak them in the two-and-times quantity of lime juice. After draining the water, dry them and make powder with a little amount of Black salt. Mix this powder with warm water and take 2 to 3 times a day internally.



  • To get relief from colic take Ajwain seeds, dry Ginger and Black salt ground them together. Consume 3 grams of this powder along with warm water.

  • To cure influenza, drink the boiled water with 3 grams of Ajwain and 3 grams of Cinnamon (Dalachini) bark for 3 days, thrice a day.

  • For curing chronic bronchitis, mix Ajwain with Jaggery (Gudha), heat the mixture to make a paste and take 2 teaspoons twice a day.

  • To get rid of indigestion, combine 1 teaspoon of Ajwain with 2 pinches of salt or with Betel (Paan) leaves. Chew the combination and swallow it to get relief from discomfort.

  • To cure cough effectively, chew little Ajwain and drink some hot water after chewing. Ajwain seed is also beneficial as steam inhalation in cough and cold.

  • To get relieved from the blocked nose, add 1 tablespoon of Ajwain to a bowl of boiling water and inhale the steam.

  • To cure sprains, make a paste of Ajwain, Salt and Turmeric (Haldi) in Gingelly oil and apply it to the sprained area.

  • For sore throat, take 1 teaspoon of ground Ajwain and add to a cup of boiling water, allow it to cool and used as a gargle.

  • Take 2-3 gm ajwain seed in one cup of warm water, keep it overnight, take it water in an airtight container, use it the whole day for colic pain in children.

  • In acute productive cough, take ajwain seed and cow ghee roast slightly then add wheat/ green gram lentils flour, roast them and add plenty of water and jaggery for taste. This preparation is useful in hiccups also.

  • Ajwain seed is beneficial for urticaria, ajwain seed with soda bicarbonate and jaggery internally is useful in itching due to urticaria or other skin problem.

  • Persistent vomiting is also reduced by ajwain seed.

  • In fever roast ajwain seed and cumin seed, take it with hot water and honey is useful.
