What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a hearing condition characterized by a persistent ringing, buzzing, or whooshing sound in the ears, even when there is no external noise present. This condition can affect one or both ears and may vary in intensity and frequency.

Common Causes of Tinnitus

Tinnitus can be triggered by several underlying health issues or environmental factors, including:

  • Injury or damage to blood vessels near the inner ear.

  • Blood clots or blocked vessels in the head or around the ears.

  • High blood pressure (Hypertension).

  • Low red blood cell count (Anemia).

  • Overactive thyroid (Hyperthyroidism).

  • Tumors or lesions in the brain, neck, or head.

  • Smoking and tobacco use.

  • Water trapped in the ear during bathing or swimming.

  • Ear infections caused by bacteria or other microorganisms.

  • Symptoms of Tinnitus

The signs and symptoms of tinnitus may include:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness.

  • Pulsating, whooshing, or thumping noises.

  • Sounds that synchronize with your heartbeat.

  • A sensation of hearing your heartbeat inside the ear.

  • Occasional ear pain or inflammation.

  • Natural and Ayurvedic Home Remedies for Tinnitus Relief

  • Crush fresh basil leaves, extract the juice, warm it slightly, and place 1-2 drops into each ear. This can help reduce both the ringing sound and pain.

  • Inhale mild fumes of turmeric, camphor, and Guggulu (Commiphora Mukul) twice daily for soothing relief.

  • Fry chopped onions or garlic cloves in sesame oil. Strain the oil and use it as ear drops to reduce symptoms of tinnitus and ear infections.

  • Boil 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger in warm water. Let it steep for 15 minutes and consume once daily to reduce inflammation and improve ear health.

  • Regularly apply warm sesame oil to the scalp, ears, and feet to maintain ear moisture and alleviate tinnitus symptoms.

  • Using a few drops of warm mustard oil in the ears helps protect against infections and enhances ear hygiene.

  • Daily exercises targeting the head, neck, and body improve blood circulation, which may help reduce ringing in the ears.

  • Practicing meditation can shift your focus away from ear noise and reduce stress-related triggers.

  • Consume a nutrient-dense diet rich in vitamins and minerals, especially Vitamin B12, which supports nerve and ear health.

  • Include dairy products, cow ghee, mushrooms, eggs, and lean meats in your diet to naturally manage tinnitus symptoms.
