What is Itching or Pruritus?

  • Itching or pruritus is feeling to scratch on the skin, irritating and uncontrolled condition.


  • Causes of Itching or Pruritus

  • Allergy.

  • Dry skin.

  • Candida or other fungal infections.

  • Bee/ insects bite.

  • Poisonous animal bite.

  • Hair or skin lice.


  • Home Remedies for Itching or Pruritus

  • Add one tablespoon of dried Thyme leaves to two cups of boiling water. Cover, allow it to cool and strain the solution. Apply the solution directly to the itchy skin.

  • Crush some Peppermint leaves and rub them directly on the itchy area.

  • Cut open Aloe Vera plant leaf and take the inside gel. Apply and rub this gel on the irritating skin.

  • Take Lemon and squeeze out little juice over the itchy area. Allow it to dry and soon finds some relief.

  • Add 1 part of water to 3 parts of Baking soda to make a paste. Then apply this to the itchy area. (Don't use this on the broken skin)

  • Take some Basil (tulsi) leaves and crush them for juice. Rub this on the skin directly.

  • For whole body itching, add 2 to 3 cups of Apple Cider Vinegar to lukewarm bathwater. Soak yourself in this water for 15 to 30 minutes.

  • Mix 2 teaspoons each of Cinnamon (dalchini) powder and Honey (shahad) well. Apply this to the affected area and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Later wash it off with water and repeat this 3 times a day.

  • Take 6 tablespoons of Coconut oil and mix 4 tablespoons of Lemon juice. Heat the mixture till it turns lukewarm. Apply on the affected area and leave it overnight.

  • Take 3 tablespoons of Corn starch and add water to make a paste. Apply this on the itchy area and leave it for 15 minutes. Later wash it off with water. Do this 3 times a day.


  • Helpful Tips for Itching or Pruritus

  • Avoid sudden temperature variations, like take a bath after sun exposure/ extreme heat, or cold air condition to extreme heat exposure.

  • Take bath with neem boiled water regularly.

  • Avoid taking dairy products with sour and salty food items.

  • Avoid using the belongings of others.

  • Take proper advice from a skin expert or Ayurveda physician.
