What is Indigestion (Dyspepsia)?

  • Indigestion, or dyspepsia, refers to discomfort or a sensation of fullness that occurs during or after eating.

  • It may be accompanied by a burning feeling or pain in the upper abdomen.

  • Indigestion can be a symptom of underlying conditions such as peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or gallbladder disorders.


  • Causes of Indigestion (Dyspepsia)

  • Consuming heavy or junk food.

  • Lack of or disrupted sleep.

  • Irregular eating schedules.

  • Eating too quickly or overeating.

  • Consuming foods that are allergenic, unsuitable, or unfamiliar.

  • Constipation or infections/anomalies in the gastrointestinal tract.

  • Use of certain medications (e.g., aspirin) that irritate the digestive system.

  • Excessive consumption of alcohol or caffeine.

  • Bloating.

  • Belching.

  • Heartburn.

  • Gurgling or unusual stomach noises.

  • Nausea.

  • Vomiting.

  • Constipation.

  • Home Remedies for Indigestion (Dyspepsia)

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of roasted coriander seed powder into a glass of buttermilk and drink once or twice daily.

  • Add 1 teaspoon of roasted cumin seed powder to a glass of water and drink it.

  • Combine equal parts of ginger juice and lemon juice, add a pinch of rock salt, and take it before meals.

  • Take 2-3 grams of dried ginger powder with lukewarm water.

  • Drink fresh carrot juice.

  • Consume 1 teaspoon of peppermint oil three times a day between meals.

  • Chew and swallow a spoonful of fennel or caraway seeds to ease digestion.

  • Roast, grind, and sieve fennel seeds; take half a teaspoon of this powder with water twice daily.

  • Mix 10 grams of aged jaggery with a pinch of long pepper powder.

  • Combine 3 grams of ajwain powder with 3 grams of dried ginger powder and take it one hour before meals.

  • Eat freshly prepared, warm, and easy-to-digest foods.

  • Avoid heavy, oily, or junk food.
