What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an infection that affects the gums, the deeper tissues, and the bones that support your teeth. It causes inflammation and, if untreated, can lead to serious oral health issues.

Home Remedies for Gum Problems

  • Chew fresh Basil (tulsi) leaves to help treat gum infections.

  • Regularly chew figs to support gum health.

  • Incorporate vitamin-C-rich foods like oranges, grapefruit, kiwi, mango, papaya, strawberries, red peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cantaloupe into your diet to promote gum strength.

  • Apply diluted raw honey directly to the affected areas of your gums. Let it sit for a while before rinsing your mouth.

  • Use neem twigs for oral hygiene; they offer antimicrobial, detoxifying, antiviral, analgesic, and other health benefits.

  • Gargling with lemon water can help reduce bleeding gums.

  • Mix powdered charcoal from black catechu bark with rock salt and gently rub it on your teeth and gums to strengthen them.

  • Powder betel nut and mix with honey, apply to bleeding gums for relief.

  • Gargle with a pinch of alum dissolved in two glasses of water to help with bleeding gums and pyorrhea.

  • Chew rosary pea plant leaves to alleviate burning sensations caused by new dentures.

  • Supportive Tips for Maintaining Gum Health

  • Apply manjana (an Ayurvedic herbal powder) to your gums once a week.

  • Use twigs of Karanja (Pongamia pinnata) or neem to brush your teeth once or twice daily.

  • Floss carefully and as needed to avoid irritating the gums.

  • Rinse your mouth with warm water or herbal-infused water (using turmeric, pipal bark, or banyan bark).

  • Frequently, massage raw honey into the gums to help keep them strong and healthy.
