What are Piles / Hemorrhoids?

  • It refers to a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed.

  • Piles arise from the increased pressure of internal or external veins around the anal canal.


  • Causes of Piles / Hemorrhoids

  • Spicy and heavy food intake.

  • Profession, which has mostly work on dest or in sitting position.
  • Chronic constipation.

  • Very less intake of water and fibrous-containing food.

  • Sedentary lifestyle.


  • Symptoms of Piles / Hemorrhoids

  • Bleeding per rectum.

  • Feeling of foreign body in the rectum.
  • Painful defecation.

  • Constipation with stomach disturbance.

  • Profuse or droplet bleeding after defecation.


  • Home Remedies for Piles / Hemorrhoids

  • Soak dried figs (anjeer) in warm water overnight and eat them the first thing in the morning.

  • Take a tablespoon of Triphala with water when going to bed.

  • Mix grounded black Cumin (jeera) seeds and add one teaspoon of this powder to a glass of water and drink it once in a day.

  • Boil ripe banana and consume twice a day.

  • Crush bitter gourd leaves and extract the juice. Mix 3 tsp in 1 glass of buttermilk and drink on an empty stomach every morning, for a month.

  • Juice extracted from Carrot (gajar) and beetroot (chukandar) may be applied to the swollen veins.

  • Drink a glass of buttermilk with 1/4 tsp Carom seed powder (ajwain) and a pinch of salt.


  • Medicinal liquids

  • Buttermilk (chaacha) should be used at least twice daily.

  • Boil the peel of pomegranate (anaar) in some water, filter and drink it twice a day.

  • Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.


  • Ointments for Piles

  • Pilex ointment (Himalaya).

  • Arshonyt ointment (Charak).

  • Pilief ointment(Charak).

  • Arshohitta ointment(Dhootpapeshvar).
  • (Note: These above-mentioned Ointments are also available with the same name in the form of oral tablets)

  • Kasisadi Taila.

  • Sitz bath: Boil "Triphala choorna" or grated Radish in water and pour this water in a tub. Then take a sitz bath when water is tolerably hot.


  • Do's and Dont's for Piles / Hemorrhoids

  • Keep away the food that is too spicy and fried.

  • Non - vegetarian food should be taken in a controlled manner.

  • Taking liquor should be avoided.

  • Heavy weight lifting jobs may also cause piles.

  • Surana used as a vegetable is beneficial in piles.
