Eczema or atopic eczema is a condition in which patches of skin become itchy, inflamed, cracked, rough, or blisters. It's more common in children but can occur at any age. Arms, legs, back, and chest are more susceptible parts for eczema to occur. Children and teens This condition is uncomfortable and uneasy as you feel to scratch your skin continuously.

Following are the types of eczema

  • Atopic dermatitis.

  • Each of these has different causes. It is a very common condition, the risk factor for atopic dermatitis is having a personal or family history of eczema, allergies, or asthma.

    Following are the symptoms of eczema

  • Rashes on your skin.

  • Bumps.

  • Fissures.

  • Dryness.

  • Red to brownish patches on the skin.

  • Crusting or oozing.

  • Swelling.

  • Leathery or scaly patches on the skin.

  • Weeping when the blister burst.

  • Discolouration of skin or pale patches.


  • Symptoms can vary from mild to severe that are present for a long time. If the condition is left untreated can cause the condition get worse.

    Have a look at some common causes of it -

  • Genetics.

  • Food allergies.

  • Environmental factors.

  • Irritants such as soaps and detergents.

  • Seasonal allergies.

  • Endocrine disorders.

  • Problems in the working of your immune system.

  • Skin conditions such as fungal infection and scabies.

  • Cigarette smoke.

  • Certain fabrics like polyester and wool.

  • Raised body temperature.

  • Upper respiratory tract infections.

    If the itching and redness you're experiencing don't go away on their own or interfere with your daily life activities.

    Following are some common preventive measures

  • Moisturize your skin.

  • Don't let the sweat accumulated on your skin.

  • Don't use harsh soaps instead use glycerin contains soap.

  • Avoid sudden temperature changes.

  • wear gloves while washing dishes or doing housework.

  • Avoid using a fragrance containing moisturizers or skin cream.

  • Use lukewarm water to bath.


  • There is no perfect cure for eczema but you can manage it with these managing tips

  • Use an oil-based moisturizer or a steroid cream (consult with your dermatologist/general practitioner before taking any medications).

  • Certain foods, such as dairy products and nuts can trigger symptoms of eczema. Hence, it is better to avoid them.

  • Choose a soap without perfumes or dyes.

  • Avoid spices and citrus fruits.
