Madhuka Leha (Herbal Jam)

Ingredients :
Mahua, Madhuka flowers (Madhuka indica) - 80 gm.
Dates - 80 gm.
Raw banana - 80 gm.
Green gram - 80 gm.
Sugar candy - 700 gm.
Bay leaf (Cinnamomum tamala) - 6 gm.
Cinnamon - 6 gm.
Pippali (long pepper), (Piper longum) - 2 gm.
Cardamom - 2 gm.
Honey - 10 ml.
Ragi/arrow root powder (optional) - 1 to 2 tea spoons.
Total quantity - 400 gm.
How to prepare :
Cook seedless dates and bananas in steam.
Grind it into a thick paste and saute it in ghee.
Now add sugar syrup and stir well.
When it becomes thick, add cardamom powder, cinnamon, and pippali to it.
Add honey when it becomes cool. It can also be dried and powdered with ragi (pearl
millet) / arrowroot powder.
Benefits :
Good pediatric food contains carbohydrates, easily digestible proteins and minerals.
Mahua flowers have been traditionally used as a cooling agent and help in the augmentation of breast milk.
Beneficial in acute and chronic tonsillitis, pharyngitis as well as bronchitis.
Precaution :
Madhuka Leha (Herbal Jam) should be given in small quantities.
