External Morphology

An erect rarely branched, annual herb, 60-120cm in height.

Therapeutic Indication

Apsmara (Epilepsy), Atisaar (Diarrohoea), Sperm problems, Anidra (Insomnia)

Therapeutic Uses

1. The seeds pounded with milk & pasted helps to destroy dandruff.
2. The seeds are used as general tonic in form of various receipes.

Dose

Exduate - 30 to 125 mg, Khas khas -1 to 3 gm
Fatal dose : Opium - 2 gm
Morphine : 0.2 gm
Codein : 0.5 gm

Adverse Effect

Its overdose causes- drowsiness, sleep, respiratory arrest, dipression and even death

Remedial Measure

Stomach wash, emesis, use of antidotes like ghee, tobacco etc, cardiac stimulant like kasturi.

Contraindications

Children, Kidney disease, Dipression like mental disorder

Purification

The exudates of Ahiphen is dissolved in water, filtered &then concentrated by boiling, then it is macerated 21 times with the juice of Ardrak (Ginger), then it is purified.
