How to Use Tulsi (Holy Basil) for Hair:

  • Holy basil paste is applied to the hair and scalp for better hair health.

  • Oil prepared from Tulsi, essential oil, or carrier oil is useful for skin infections and dandruff.

  • Also, a cold infusion of this herb is helpful for hair wash and cleansing it.

  • Soaked Holy basil seed is also useful for internal detoxification and for strengthening the hair follicles.


  • Benefits of Tulsi for Hair:

  • It helps to detoxify the whole body and scalp from toxins and pollutants.

  • It relieves itching, irritation, fungal infections, and dandruff.

  • Tulsi has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, which prevent scalp diseases.

  • The antimicrobial agent in Basil helps to treat scalp acne.

  • Tulsi also provides a soothing effect externally and is hot in potency while using it internally. Hence it is useful to treat infections.


  • Side effects and risks:

  • Taking a large number of basil leaves causes heartburn, nausea, and vomiting.

  • Hair packs:

  • Take 10-12 holy basil leaves, 2-3 hibiscus flowers, and 4-5 teaspoons of sesame oil and apply to the scalp for 30-45 minutes for dandruff or seborrheic discharge. It reduces dandruff formation and helps to regrowth of hair.

  • Grind holy basil seeds with lemon juice, and let it sit for 15 minutes. After the seeds are puffed with the water, add honey to it, and apply to the scalp for 30-45 minutes. It helps to moisturize the scalp and give nourishment. Apply once a week for better hair growth.

  • Add 4-5 teaspoons of hot water, coconut oil, and Triphala powder to Tulsi leaves and apply to the scalp for 30-45 minutes. It helps to strengthen the hair follicles.
