How to Use Shikakai for Hair:

  • Shikakai pod powder (without seeds) is applied to the hair and scalp for better hair growth.

  • Its decoction is useful to cleanse the scalp and hair.

  • Oil prepared with shikakai is also useful to treat hair and scalp diseases.

  • Foam of shikakai is also useful as a shampoo for the hair.


  • Benefits of Shikakai for Hair:

  • Anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties in Shikakai help to soothe the scalp and promote healthy hair growth.

  • It has many vitamins like A, E, C, and K that help to rejuvenate the hair.

  • This herb nourishes the hair and makes it shine.

  • Shikakai cleanses and conditions the hair deeply.

  • It also hydrates the scalp and prevents hair dryness.


  • Side effects and risks:

  • Externally shikakai has no or fewer side effects but sometimes it causes itching and hair loss in hypersensitive individuals.

  • When taken internally, it can cause diarrhea and stomach disturbances.



  • Hair packs and shampoo:

  • Soak shikakai powder, amla powder, and raw reetha powder in water overnight, boil it for a while, cool it down, strain it, and use it as a shampoo. It prevents hair loss and strengthens hair.

  • Add 2-4 teaspoons of shikakai powder, Triphala powder, and licorice root powder to curd, make it pouring consistency, apply to hair for 30-45 minutes, then wash it out. It reduces dandruff and nourishes the scalp.

  • Add shikakai powder to warm coconut oil, leave it for 24-48 hours, add honey, and apply it to the hair for 30-35 minutes, it gives shiny hair.

  • Mix shikakai powder and henna powder with lime juice in an iron vessel for 24 hours, then apply it for 40-45 minutes to the scalp. It helps to rejuvenate the hair and prevents premature hair greying.
