What is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is inflammations of space (sinuses) behind the nose, that altered the mucous secretions and drainage.

Causes of sinusitis

  • Common cold.

  • Allergic rhinitis.

  • Anatomical defect like a polyp or deviated septum, or tumor.

  • Blockage in drainage channels.

  • Immunosuppressive medication.


  • Symptoms and complications of sinusitis

  • Headache.

  • Throbbing pain around eyes, between the eyebrows, and posterior part of the nose.

  • Nasal blockage.

  • Fever.

  • Sometimes inflammation under the eyes, and on the face.

  • Bad breathe.

  • Yellowish thick nasal discharge.

  • Altered smell and taste.

  • Earache.

  • Mostly it is caused by common cold infections, it resolves in a week or few more days.

  • But chronic sinusitis is difficult to resolve and altered breathing.

  • If the secondary infection is caused by bacteria, it became more worst by pain and inflammation.

  • Home Remedies For Sinusitis

  • Take a warm and fresh diet: avoid cold, sour, and processed food.

  • Take ginger tea regularly to reduce inflammation and for improvement of immunity.

  • Take inhalation of simple water or medicated water (water with camphor/ ajwain seed/ ginger powder) twice a day.

  • Take ajwain seed roast in ghee, after that add 1-year-old jaggery, take it with warm water, it helps to reduce headache and pain.

  • Take turmeric with warm water, add a pinch of sugar in it, take twice a day, it helps to reduce infection and inflammation too.

  • Take 5-6 cloves, sry roast in pan, take fume of it for nasal blockage and headache. the same is applied to black pepper.

  • Take nasya therapy of Ayurveda, it is according to the disease severity and patient's body type.

  • Take warm water, add 5-6 basil leaves/ mint leaves, sit it for 10 minutes, after that consume it with leaves, it helps to reduce pain.

  • Take a ginger powder, and Multani mitti, apply to the forehead and between the eyebrows, it helps in acute and severe pain.
