What is Osteoporosis?

  • A situation of bones where the strength of bones are weakened, and they are more prone to have fractures.
  • Mainly affect the spine, hip bones, and hands.


  • Causes of Osteoporosis

  • Malnutrition.

  • Autoimmune or inflammatory disorders like rheumatoid arthritis.

  • Low calcium intake/ absorption.

  • Lack of exercise.

  • Chemotherapy medicines.

  • Hyperthyroidism or hormonal imbalance.

  • Hereditary.

  • Smoking or alcohol consumption.

  • Genetic disorders.

  • Age above 50 years.


  • Symptoms of Osteoporosis

  • Joint pain.

  • Difficulty in movement.

  • Pain especially in the spine, wrist, and legs.

  • Frequent and easy fractures of bones.

  • Difficulty in routine work.


  • Preventive measures for Osteoporosis

  • Eat a healthy, balanced, and vitamin D rich diet.

  • Do regular exercise.

  • Avoid taking alcohol, smoking, and caffeine.

  • Don't take so much stress to the joints(because of fractures).


  • Home Remedies For Osteoporosis

  • Take smoothies of apple, almond, coconut milk, coconut water, sesame, jaggery, poppy seeds, and other fresh ripe fruits.

  • Take an asthishrinkhala (Cissus quadrangularis) powder with milk is beneficial.

  • Take ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Bala (Sida cordifolia), and Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) with warm milk according to the health conditions.

  • Take cow ghee, banana, ragi, cow milk regularly in the diet.

  • Take a coriander seed, soak in water overnight, take it in the morning.

  • Take fenugreek seed, roast in a pan, make a powder, take this twice a day for relief of pain.

  • Take sesame oil, apply it to the whole body, it is beneficial in pain and also in inflammation.

  • Take 1 cup of sesame, ½ cup of jaggery, and 1 t.spoon of pippalimoola (the root of piper longum), grind it, make a paste, take it with warm water in the morning, it is beneficial in daily intake of calcium, and avoiding malnutrition.

  • Take cow milk, add a pinch of ginger, and a pinch of raw sugar, take it at night time, it helps in reducing pain and gives strength to the bones.
