What is Obesity?

  • Obesity is a condition that has abnormal and excessive fat accumulation in the body.


  • Causes of Obesity

  • High-calorie food intake

  • Less exercise

  • Sedentary lifestyle

  • Metabolic disorders

  • Long term bed ridden health conditions


  • Symptoms of Obesity

  • Bodyweight is above the average

  • BMI is more than 30

  • Difficulty in walking, exercise, work, and other physical activities.

  • Difficulty in sleeping

  • Sleep apnea


  • Complications of Obesity

  • Gall stones

  • Skin diseases caused by excessive sweating

  • Varicose veins

  • Joint pain and inflammations especially in weight-bearing joints

  • Difficulty in breathing while running or walking


  • When to consult a doctor?

  • If the BMI score is between 25 to 30 is considered as overweight, it is an initial stage, but exercise and diet could help in reducing weight.

  • With a score of 30, it is better to consult a doctor, or Ayurveda physician, as it helps in various factors and gives medication and diet regimen to follow.


  • Home Remedies For Obesity

  • Take a wholesome diet, avoid fatty, oily, processed, cheese, butter, and refined flour containing food items.

  • Also, avoid taking the dairy product, and sweet preparation that has more sugar contains.

  • Take moderately a food that has high sugar contains, like, mango, sugarcane, banana, coconut, sweet melon, potato, sweet potato, jaggery, etc.

  • Take fewer food items like refined oil, processed sugar, junk food, cold drink, alcohol, curd, etc.

  • Take a ginger tea with honey (add when cool down the mixture) in the morning, which helps to boosts metabolism.

  • Use cow ghee instead of processed oil in routine.

  • Take coarse flour of wheat, barley, or lentils instead of refined ones.

  • Take 1-year-old edge rice instead of new harvested.

  • Take green gram soup in the diet every second day for protein intake and for reducing weight.

  • Take a roasted chickpea, popcorn, puffed rice for munching between the meals.

  • Use warm water the whole day for drinking, it helps to reduce constipation and weight too.

  • Take a food, when it is feeling of hungry, never take a meal without appetite.

  • Exercise regularly empty stomach in the morning and evening as well.

  • Do Yogasana and pranayama as well for mental wellness and for physical strengthening.

  • Take Triphala churna at night before sleep, it reducing constipation and burns fat too.
