What is Cellulitis?

  • Cellulitis is a severe and painful inflammation of the skin, which is infected by bacteria.


  • Causes of Cellulitis:

  • Mostly infected from the cut, wounds, and abrasions of the skin.

  • Mainly caused by these bacterial infections
    • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

    • Streptococcus.

    • Staphylococcus.
  • Bug bites or spider bites can also spread bacterial infection.


  • Symptoms of Cellulitis:

  • Swelling.

  • Redness.

  • Pain and tenderness.

  • Fever.

  • Blisters.

  • Increased temperature of the affected area.

  • Rarely, chills, dizziness, and body ache.


  • Home Remedies For Cellulitis

  • Take neem leaves, make a paste apply to the affected area, leave it until dry, it helps to reduce inflammation as well infection too.

  • Take turmeric milk twice a day, it reduces infection and pain too.

  • Take parna-yavani (Coleus amboinicus / pan ajma), heat on the direct flame, apply to the affected area, it reduces inflammation as well as pian too.

  • Take bhumi-amalaki (Phyllanthus niruri) decoction, it helps to fight against infection, and purify the blood.

  • Make a paste from the ginger, rock salt, and turmeric, and warm water, apply to the affected area.

  • Taking Triphala churna internally at night is beneficial for cleansing the whole body.

  • Take hot fomentation of the saltwater or hot water bag.

  • Jalaukavacharana (leech therapy), and raktamokshana (bloodletting therapy) are beneficial in the treatment of cellulitis.

  • Take a fomentation of turmeric, and sesame oil paste for 15-20 minutes, it helps.


  • When to consult a doctor:

  • In cellulitis always consult a physician for the treatment, as if it does not treat timely it leads to severe infections.
