Health Benefits of Triphala Churna

  • Triphala acts as lekhan dravya (scrapping), so it is useful for weight loss.

  • Best time to take Triphala

    As Rasayana (for rejuvenation):
    Take 3 gm of Triphala in an iron vessel, leave it overnight. In the morning make a decoction with one cup of water, and take it with 2 tablespoons of honey.
  • Side effects: Common side effect is abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc.

  • As a Laxative:
    Take 4 to 5 gm of Triphala churna with warm water in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Side effects: abdominal cramps occur sometimes.

  • For healthy eyes:
    Soak 2 tablespoons of Triphala powder in warm water leave it overnight, strain with a clean cloth, and wash your eyes.
  • Considerations: Strain only in a clean cloth. Instead of forcing water into the eyes, use a cup and dip eyes in the cup and blink the eyes.

  • For hairs:
    Make Triphala paste with water, apply it on iron vessels overnight, scrap it and mix it with tila taila and apply on scalp for 6-8 hours.
  • Consideration: Whoever has a skin allergy or other dermatological issue applies to a small portion to check the sensitivity of the mixture.

  • In diabetes and other skin disorders:
    Triphala churna was taken as same as in constipation.

    Side effects:
    Taking overdose or wrong internal use of Triphala causes abdominal cramps, diarrhea, loose stool, dehydration, dryness of skin, fewer secretions of the whole body, lethargy, etc
    .

    Precautions and Consideration:
  • Age: It is better to avoid taking Triphala churna internally for children below 5 years and people above 60 years of age.

  • Physio-pathological conditions: Avoid using in pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, after abortion, in bleeding with stool or bleeding piles.

  • Period of uses: In various diseases, avoid taking Triphala churna for 14 to 21 days, because it develops intestinal discomfort, flatulence, and cramps.

  • Best time: It is better to take in the spring season as Rasayana (rejuvenating) and avoid taking it during extremely dry seasons.


  • The best form of taking Triphala:

    Triphala churna is recommended to take in powder form as a whole and with honey in most of the ayurvedic preparations. Also used as kadha (kwath) formulation for some preparations.
