Teeth are an important part of our body. They help in chewing the food, tasting the food, speaking, and also maintain the beauty of the face.
Despite taking good care of our teeth, most people are unable to avoid common teeth problems.
Most people develop a teeth-related problem at some stage of life. Teeth problems can be avoided by taking some measures.

Do's For Dental Care

  • Brush the teeth twice a day.

  • Fresh small stick-like branches of trees like Neem can be used for cleansing the teeth. Chew the stick at one end to make it like a brush and rub your teeth with this brush. the herbal toothpowder is also a good choice.

  • Gargle with water every time you eat anything. Fill your mouth with water, move this water 2-3 times around the teeth, and then spit it out. This will help in removing food material stuck in between the teeth and thus prevent decay of teeth.

  • In the morning, drink one glass of water with a spoonful of honey mixed. It is good for dental health.

  • After meals chewing a clove is good for teeth and gums. Keep the clove in your mouth and chew it slowly.

  • Oil pulling, a practice in which oil is filled in the mouth and kept for some time. Oil pulling has been prescribed in Ayurveda as a practice in daily regimen which helps to reduce oral problems like cavities, bleeding gums, bad breath, dryness of throat, cracked lips, etc, and is useful for strengthening teeth, gums, and the jaw. Oils such as sesame oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, mustard oil can be used.

  • For Healthy teeth take calcium-rich food like vegetables, milk, and curd regularly.


  • Don'ts For Dental Care

  • Do not eat very hot and very cold items together, like having hot tea/coffee immediately after having ice- cream or vice versa.

  • Do not have your morning tea without brushing your teeth.

  • Don't eat excessive sweets, foods containing sugar, bakery items, and junk food.

  • Don't smoke. Smoking is dangerous for teeth.

  • Home Remedies for Common Dental Problems



    Toothache:
  • Dip a cotton swab in clove oil and keep it on the affected tooth for some time.

  • Chewing a piece of cinnamon helps in alleviating toothache.

  • Make a decoction of Black mustard (Rai) and gargle with it twice a day.

  • Chew 4-5 leaves of jasmine every day.

  • Apply the latex of the banyan tree locally.


  • Bad Breath:
  • Chew a piece of cinnamon after the meal.

  • Mix a spoonful of mint juice in a glass of water and gargle with this water.

  • Chewing cardamom, betel nut, and betel leaves after meals.


  • Dental caries:
  • Apply turmeric powder mixed with mustard oil on caries twice a day.

  • Gargle with a decoction of Amla powder.

  • Apply oil of cinnamon on dental caries.

  • Chew 2-3 black pepper daily or gargle with the decoction of black pepper.


  • Bleeding gums:
  • Chew three-four guavas leave daily.

  • Rub turmeric powder regularly on gums.

  • Eat citrus fruits.

  • Rub the ash of babool wood/ coconut shell.


  • The yellowness of teeth:
  • At night before going to sleep at night, rub orange peels on the teeth.

  • Use herbal tooth powder which contains babbula and tulsi or you can make one at home.

  • Gargle with alum water once a day.
